The Cooks River is a special place for me. I have lived near it all my life and have many good memories there. It provides a natural escape in a built-up urban area that can, at times, be claustrophobic. While the Cooks River is polluted today, it was once a popular swimming spot. In recent years, efforts to clean up the river have allowed parts of it to thrive again. Examples of this include the abundance of mangroves and birdlife that reside in the river’s healthier areas. I am interested in the changes that take place at the river, and its ebb and flow throughout the day. I am fascinated by how the different facets of the river intertwine. While the Cooks River still has a long way to go in terms of its rehabilitation, its unique nature is worthy of attention.
